The Holy Grail has been written about by many different people, here I show the Quest of the Holy Grail in Arthurian legend.
The Holy Grail is a legend about a cup or plate used by Jesus Christ at the Last Supper. It was later used to catch his blood while he was dying on the cross.
It is believed to have magical powers, providing happiness and eternal youth.
One story involves the founding of the Round Table by Uther Pendragon, King Arthur’s father.
It states that a seat at the Round Table will only be taken by a knight that can seek and find the Holy Grail.
A stone is found with a sword embedded in it. It requires a knight to remove the stone and set out on a quest. Many tried but it was not until Sir Galahad appeared that he managed to remove the sword. The quest was now his.
Sir Galahad set out with his father Sir Lancelot and Sir Perceval to find the Holy Grail, and they spent many years looking for it.
Only a knight of pure life can see the Grail.
Sir Lancelot had not led a pure life, due to his adulterous affair with Arthur’s wife Guinevere. When seeing the Grail in a dream, Lancelot was struck dumb by the power of god and unable to move. It was only when the dream ended that he was able to move again.
Sir Perceval was next to see the Grail, but only in visions as he had also not led a pure life, having committed one sin.
The only knight to see the Grail clearly was the pure life led, Sir Galahad. Having seen the Grail, his life was now complete and he died and was lifted to heaven.
The remaining knights returned to Camelot with the quest for the Holy Grail over.
